Quando Smithers è devastato dalla mancanza di affetto di Burns verso di lui, Homer si prefissa di trovargli un fidanzato. Intanto, dopo che Bart orchestra la rimozione del ruolo nella recita scolastica della produzione teatrale di Casablanca, Milhouse fa un orribile sostituzione, che infuria la co-stella, Lisa.

TRAMA!:

Smithers e il Signor Burns fanno paracadutismo insieme, ma Burns sviene e cade attraverso il suo paracadute, così Smithers salta verso di lui, riuscendo a prendere Burns durante la caduta libera e salvarlo. Una volta raggiunto terra, Smithers decide di proclamare il suo amore per il Signor Burns, ma viene ignorato. Col cuore spezzato, Smithers decide di supervisionare il lavoro dei dipendenti della Centrale: Homer, Carl e Lenny. Capiscono cosa succede, quindi Homer decide di trovare una nuova anima gemella per Smithers così non si arrabbia al lavoro.

Homer decide di invitare tutti gli uomini gay da un app di incontri, Grinder, a un party dove Smithers sceglierebbe il suo nuovo amore, ma si annoia molto e decide di prendere un solo drink e andarsene. In quel momento, incontra Julio, e si innamorano l’uno dell’altro. Smithers si licenzia dalla centrale nucleare e decide di andare a vivere alla città natale di Julio: Cuba.

Senza Smithers, burns prova a trovare un sostituto, ma tutti quelli che prova falliscono miseramente. Ma le cose non vanno bene neanche a Cuba, siccome Julio scopre che Smithers non si è ancora tolto dalla testa il Signor Burns. Si lasciano e Smithers ritorna a Springfield, dove lui e il Signor Burns si riconcigliano a una cena romantica.

In una trama secondaria, la Scuola Elementare di Springfield sta organizzando una rappresentazione di Casablanca. Lisa riesce a prendere il ruolo di Ilsa, mentre Milhouse fa le prove per il ruolo di Rick così lui e Lisa possano diventare la coppia principale della recita. Però, un nuovo ragazzo chiamato Jack prende il ruolo principale. Siccome solo lui e Milhouse hanno provato il ruolo, Bart decide di portarlo via dalla recita facendo in modo che Spada, Secco e Patata lo picchino, ma il loro piano gli si rivolta contro siccome Jack li sconfigge. Però, il Preside Skinner vede che Jack picchia i bulli e lo tira fuori dalla recita, dando il ruolo principale a Milhouse.

Lisa è turbata, avendo paura che il poco talento di Milhouse avrebbe rovinato la recita, ma Marge la convince di dare supporto a Milhouse così possa fare del suo meglio. Alla recita, Milhouse azzecca le sue battute perfettamente, sorprendendo tutti. Alla fine della recita, però, viene rivelato che era Jack travestito da Milhouse che faceva Rick, e lui e Lisa se ne vanno via insieme.

PRODUZIONE!: In un’intervista, Al Jean ha detto che nell’episodio, Smithers si licenzia e si innamora di Julio.

Episode Description:

When Smithers is devastated by Burns’ lack of affection towards him, Homer makes it his mission to find him a boyfriend. Meanwhile, after Bart orchestrates the removal of the lead in the school’s stage production of Casablanca, Milhouse serves as a terrible understudy, which frustrates his co-star, Lisa.

Episode Details: ‘The Burns Cage’ is the 17th episode of Season 27 as well as the 591st episode of The Simpsons. The episode aired on FOX on April 3rd, 2016 and was written by Rob LaZebnik and directed by Rob Oliver.

PLOT!:

Smithers and Mr. Burns go skydiving together, but Burns blacked out and slip through his parachute, so Smithers jumped after him, managing to catch Burns during freefall and save him. When they reach the ground, Smithers decides to proclaim his love to Mr. Burns, but he’s ignored. Broken-hearted, Smithers decides to supervise the work from the Plant’s employees: Homer, Carl and Lenny. They all realized what was going on, so Homer decided to find a new soulmate to Smithers so he would not be angry at work.

Homer decided to invite all gay men from a dating app, Grinder, to a party where Smithers could pick his new love, but he got very annoyed and decided to just take a drink and leave. At this moment, he meet Julio, and they fall in love with each other. Smithers quits his job at the nuclear plant and decides to move to Julio’s homeland: Cuba.

With Smithers out, Burns tried to find a new replacement for him, but everyone he tried failed miserably. But things weren’t going well in Cuba either, as Julio discovers that Smithers haven’t got over Mr. Burns yet. They break up and Smithers travels back to Springfield, where he and Burns reconcile at a romantic dinner.

On a secondary plot, the Springfield Elementary School was making a Casablanca play. As Lisa manages to get the role of Ilsa, Milhouse auditions to the role of Rick so he and Lisa could be the play’s main couple. However, a new kid named Jack gets the main role. As only him and Milhouse auditioned for that character, Bart decides to take him out of the play by getting Dolph, Jimbo and Kearney to beat him, but their plan backfires as Jack defeated them. However, Principal Skinner sees Jack beating the bullies and takes him out of the play, giving the main role to Milhouse.

Lisa is upset, fearing that Milhouse’s lack of talent could ruin the play, but Marge convinced her to support Milhouse so he could do better. At the play, Milhouse gets his lines perfectly, surprising everyone. At the end of the play, however, it’s revealed that Jack was playing Milhouse portraying Rick, and he and Lisa go out for a float together.

PRODUCTION!: In an interview, Al Jean said that in the episode, Smithers quits his job and falls in love with Julio.
